How to use the Interview guide in Thomas Assess

Use the Thomas Interview guide to simplify hiring processes and generate role-specific questions derived from candidate assessments.

Recruitment processes vary widely, from creative interview formats to structured question sets. Regardless of the approach, getting the interview right is essential. A good interview experience helps identify the right candidate and protects your employer brand, as poor candidate experiences can lead to negative reviews that impact both recruitment and customer perception.

While many rely on gut instinct, research shows that successful hiring requires more than intuition. That is where Thomas can help - use our 'Interview guide' to bring structure, consistency and objective insight to every interview, ensuring you make confident and informed hiring decisions.

Using the Interview guide in Assess

The Thomas 'Interview guide' is a powerful tool within our talent assessment platform, designed to support deeper, more meaningful interviews. Tailored to each candidate based on their assessment results, it provides targeted questions that help you explore any gaps between a candidate’s profile and the key characteristics needed for the role. By using this guide, you can move beyond surface-level responses to better understand each candidate’s personality, behaviour and suitability, ensuring more informed and effective hiring decisions.

Take the following steps to get the most out of the interview process in Assess:

Step 1 - Creating roles

Before you can access the 'Interview guide', you must create a job role and select the characteristics and learning environment required for it.

Thereafter, you can invite or add potential candidates to the role and select the assessments you want them to complete.

Navigate here if you want a recap on creating a job role.

Step 2 - Selecting candidates to interview

After all your candidates have completed their assessments for the job role, you can determine which ones you would like to invite for an interview. Read more here on how to decide which candidates are the best potential fit for the job role.

Step 3 - Interviewing candidates

After you identify the pool of candidates you want to invite for an interview, you can click on their name while still in the job role to open their profile. Scroll down the list and click on the 'Interview guide' tab.

In this section, you will see a list of questions to ask them based on what you wanted for the role (the characteristics) and what they have to offer (determined by their assessment results). The questions are designed to address the largest gaps between your needs and their profiles and are prioritised according to their significance for the role.
